Elayna Middleton, Care Coordinator

Meet our team – Elayna Middleton

Let us introduce you to Elayna! She’s the Care Coordinator for our Ilkeston branch, queen of organisation and is always smiling.

What do you do at Avanti?

My main role at Avanti is to manage the weekly rotas for the carers. I also support the Registered Manager by enrolling new staff, introducing carers to new service users and supporting the team with any problems they may have.

What’s your background?

I left Sixth Form once I finished my A-Levels. I started as a carer at Avanti in 2019 and after 6 months, I progressed into being a Care Coordinator. I’ve been at Avanti for a year now and I’m studying towards my NVQ Level 5 which will allow me to progress to being a Deputy Manager.

What is something that you’d like to help change in the care industry?

The duration of call times. Short call times tend to be the norm in the care sector and I don’t think that a good standard of care can be given to an individual in less than 30 minutes. At Avanti, we don’t have call times any less than this as we want to make sure that our carers have time to deliver an excellent standard of care that puts that individual’s needs first. Even if a call only requires a simple medication administration, we never want our clients to feel rushed – we may be the only person they see all day so it’s important that we spend quality time with all of our clients.

What do you like most about your job?

I like keeping everything organised in the office and helping everything run smoothly. I love chatting with our carers when they pop in and being on call to help with anything that the care team or clients need.

What do you like when you’re not Avanti-ing?

When I’m not at work, I like to take my 8 month old puppy, Rosie on walks with my Dad in the Peak District. I also enjoy my PT sessions 3 times a week and love spending time with my family.

What’s your favourite quote?

I love the print on my wall that says: ‘What if I fall? Oh but my darling, what if you fly?’. It reminds me to always take risks in life!
